1777. Albany, New York.
As battle cries of the American Revolution echo in the distance, servants flutter about preparing for one of New York society’s biggest events: the Schuylers’ grand ball.
Descended from two of the oldest and most distinguished bloodlines in New York, the Schuylers are proud to be one of their fledgling country’s founding families, and even prouder still of their three daughters—Angelica, with her razor-sharp wit; Peggy, with her dazzling looks; and Eliza, whose beauty and charm rival that of both her sisters, though she’d rather be aiding the colonists’ cause than dressing up for some silly ball.
Still, she can barely contain her excitement when she hears of the arrival of one Alexander Hamilton, a mysterious, rakish young colonel and General George Washington’s right-hand man. Though Alex has arrived as the bearer of bad news for the Schuylers, he can’t believe his luck—as an orphan, and a bastard one at that—to be in such esteemed company. And when Alex and Eliza meet that fateful night, so begins an epic love story that would forever change the course of American history.
My Review
I was squealing so bad when I got the ARC for Alex & Eliza in the mail. I mean, what would be the right reaction besides freaking out from excitement, amirite? I finished the book in one siting and wow, I must say I had such a pleasant time spending with this ADORABLE book.
While it has its own flaws, it was such a sweet read and I find it extremely easy to get lost in the book & finish through quickly. I love the way the author takes her creative freedom with Alexander and Elizabeth’s love story, and their banters are just simply too precious. The setting and the current era tone were PERFECT, which makes the book even more amazing. Not only that, all the characters are so lovable and I’m so thrilled to see their interactions throughout the book. Alex & Eliza is easily the best YA Historical Fiction I’ve read!
As I mentioned, this book has its flaws. I was expecting to see more sides of the three Schuyler sisters, especially their infamous intelligence and determination. Though it was implied, it wasn’t truly portrayed throughout the book. Also, definitely not having a sequel is a flaw too (Melissa de la Cruz this is a major hint to write more about Hamilton!! *mildly fangirling*) I would definitely love love LOVE to be able to see more of their amazing interactions.
Whether you are a Hamilton fan or not, Alex & Eliza is definitely a perfect book for you, especially when you are in need of a quick, sweet read that will guarantee to brighten up your day. The book was a delight, and I had tons of fun reading it. Definitely recommend this peeps!
