Review:

Back in November, I reviewed The Soul Summoner, the first book of The Soul Summoner series, and absolutely loved it. My sentiments are definitely the same for the second installment, The Siren.

Nothing made me happier than immersing myself back into the love triangle of Sloan, Warren and Nate. While at the end of the first book I was really finding myself content with Sloan’s predicament of finding herself torn between hunky Warren Parish and snarky Detective Nathan McNamara.

Though, this time around, I’m just going to say it out loud. I’m team Warren. I one hundred percent blame Sloan’s multiple “holy shit, my boyfriend is so damn sexy I forgot what I’m doing” moments. Sure, there is the whole “IT’S ONLY BEEN LIKE SIX WEEKS” argument, but when you know, you freaking know. But, this isn’t to say that I’m dismissing Nate all together mind you. I just want him all to myself. #selfish #letsplaydetective

What I really loved about The Siren was learning more about what makes Sloan and Warren so much different than everyone else. Without giving anything away, I was completely surprised by the revelation of what exactly they are.

This was maybe based on the typical supernatural style stories I’ve read in the past, but I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that what they are wasn’t obvious to me. I got to be surprised right along with them.

There were so many emotional ups and down with this story. I really feel like I have a bit on an emotional whiplash and really just want to hug Sloan for endless hours and just stroke her hair, maybe buy her a beer. While there is an underlying mystery revolving around a missing woman that may or may not be related to the series of murders from the first book, I really loved getting to know these characters more.

However, this also made me increasingly sad that Sloan is a fictional character, because girl, we would get along so well. Did I also mention that I want Nathan all to myself? Just don’t tell my husband.

But UGH the cliffhanger. Okay, admittedly, it’s not so much of a cliffhanger as it is that moment when my glass arcadia door is perfectly clean and my dog doesn’t notice and just sprints straight into it. Like splat! Right now I’m casually shaking that off and hoping no one inside noticed. I mean, come on! WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DO THIS TO ME? Such a bomb is dropped and now I’m pining for that third book.
