Wow, wow, wow.

This book took me a while to actually get around to, but once I did I finished it in two sittings.

I was very impressed with Marie Lu. I have heard and seen this book around for years before I finally bought it at Half Price Books a couple years ago. Then it took a while longer to actually pick it up. And once I did, I almost regret not reading it sooner.

Legend is an easy, quick read. Lu’s writing style flows smoothly and keeps you riveted to the last page. The book alternates POVs between Day and June – also in the paper copy, Day’s POV is printed in gold ink which is my favorite quirk of the book – and Lu is very talented at leaving off at some sort of cliffhanger in one POV before switching to the next, keeping you around for a while.

In Legend, Day is a well-known but unknown criminal on the streets, and June is the only person to make a perfect 1500 on her Trials, and she is a rebellious child at the top military school she attends. Then something brings them together, and they start to find out what secrets their country has.

June is incredibly smart and calculating. I loved reading her POV because she was so perceptive and caught the smallest of details that I would never have been able to if I was in her position.

Day was also so sweet and cunning. Since he failed his trials, he was forced to hide on the streets to escape being found by authorities. He was almost as perceptive as June and just as impressive. I was definitely falling for him throughout the book. Talk about a new ship.

I thought the book would go in one direction, but it took many twists and turns to where I was gasping at least a couple times during the book. There were some parts I found predictable, but other than that I absolutely loved this book. I was right along side June, calculating everything and trying to piece together the puzzle before she did. Marie Lu definitely has me looking forward to buying Prodigy and maybe even sticking around for her Young Elites series. Who knows?
